Mafe, Josiah B. (Tunde)

Dr. Josiah Babatunde Mafe, 83, of Guelph, Ontario, passed away suddenly Saturday, November 4, 2017 at his home. Josiah, who was also known as Tunde, was born August 5, 1934 in Ijebu-Ode, Nigeria. He is survived by his loving wife Truus van Halem, with whom he spent 49 wonderful years, and his four children: Babajide (Theresa), David (Sharon), Diana (Tony), and Miranda (David). He was a loving and proud Grandpa and Opa to his grandchildren: Dami, Tofunmi, Duro, Dayo, Aria and Mia. He is also survived by his siblings: Mrs. Folasade Adeoye, Mrs. Iyabode Pecku, Mr. Abayomi Mafe and Mrs. Ibironke Adesanya. Predeceased by his youngest brother, Mr. Adeleke Mafe.
Tunde was a charismatic individual with a good sense of humour and a flair for conversation. He enjoyed working on his many cars, playing the piano by ear and having his family and friends around him. His fondness for antiques, passion for music and love for dancing will always be remembered. He studied medicine in Europe and devoted his life to his hospital practice in Nigeria before retiring in Guelph.
Originally baptized and confirmed in the Anglican Church, Tunde was a firm believer in Jesus Christ as his Saviour. We are blessed and comforted to know that he is with the Lord.
Visitation will be held on Friday November 10, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Wall Custance Funeral Home located at 206 Norfolk Street, Guelph, Ontario. The funeral service will be held on Saturday November 11, 2017 at 11:30 am at First Christian Reformed Church at 287 Water Street, Guelph, Ontario followed by refreshments. Family and close friends are then welcome to attend the interment at Farnham Cemetery on Arkell Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Diabetes Canada.

A tree will be planted in memory of Josiah B. (Tunde) Mafe in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 16, 2018 at 2:30 pm.
