Wiley , Brian T.

WILEY, Brian Thomas - Of Guelph, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 13th, 2018, surrounded by family. He was born April 30, 1940 to Adelaide C. Wiley (nee George) and Russell T. Wiley in Waynesboro Pennsylvania.
Brian will be much missed by his wife of 38 years, Rita Cupitt. He will also be missed by his children Leila and Brendan (Nadia), along with his children from a previous marriage to Helen Noseworthy (Carroll): Christine (Murray), Pamela (Keven), and Brian (Lori). Brian will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren Lance and Shael Murray, and Haydn and Rowan Wiley. He will also be missed by his great grandson Charlie Murray, son of Lance and Shannon.
Brian lived in Pennsylvania and Delaware before moving to Canada (Quebec) in 1966. Brian and Rita lived in several cities in Ontario before moving their family to Guelph in 1986.
Educated as an analytical chemist, Brian’s career was broadly based on the applications of instrumentation to chemical analyses and included positions in R&D, sales, training and marketing. He later applied this knowledge and experience to his own graphics design and training company and as an adjunct instructor with General Motors University. He later worked as an Employer Relations Consultant for Lutherwood in Kitchener and Guelph.
Since his early days Brian enjoyed photography and travel. He and Rita especially enjoyed cruising. Brian combined these interests to self-publish books on their travels and family activities. As time and his schedule permitted, Brian was also active in church work and in assisting immigrants to successfully settle in Guelph. Brian’s hobby in later years was painting in both oil and acrylics.
Sharing knowledge and helping others was a theme throughout Brian’s life. In the early 1990’s, he created the Guelph Management Resource Group (GMRG) to help individuals with job-search strategies. Some 400 people were able to access this non-profit networking group.
Brian was on the Executive Council of the Guelph Wellington Inclusive Alliance (13 years), and on the Executive Council of the Lutheran Church. He was a Board Member of Immigrant Services Guelph (8 years). He also served on the Leadership Council of the Local Immigration Partnership (LIP – 2 years), and most recently, the Older Adults Advisory Group for the Guelph Public Library.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to our relatives, friends, and neighbours for their support and comfort during the last year of his illness. Our gratitude goes out to the doctors, nurses and caregivers who helped support his wish of being home with his family, along with the staff from Hospice Wellington. Your kindness will always be remembered.
