RITCEY, Gwendolyn Marie -
October 13, 1927 – December 19, 2018
Passed away peacefully on December 19, 2018, Gwendolyn Ritcey of Guelph. Predeceased by her parents Burnham and Laura Ritcey, brother Douglas, special niece Sharon Cleary (Joslyn), great-nephew Jonathon Harris, brother-in-law Sydney Dove and sister-in-law Audrey Ritcey.
Gwen is survived by her loving sister, Iris Dove (Sydney, deceased), who she affectionately called her “second mother”.
Left to mourn with wonderful memories are her nieces Susan Smith (Robert, deceased), Stephanie Coffen (Glenn), Elizabeth Harris (Glenn). Nephews Douglas Ritcey (Barbara), Michael Dove (Lyness). Great-nieces and great-nephews Tamara Dove, Allan Dove, Laura Daigle, Christopher Cleary, Darrell Ritcey, Robert Smith, Kathleen Smith and their families. Life long, special friends Mary Anne and Louise Hunt. Wonderful friend and caregiver Karen Ruane and her husband Peter.
Gwen was a graduate of University of Western Ontario, BSc and University of Guelph, MSc. Zoology. Upon graduation, Gwen worked with the Department of Environmental Biology at the University of Guelph. She spent many years working with the growers at Holland Marsh doing research work in pest management. Gwen was the author of many research papers as well as a contributor to the papers of other researchers. She worked diligently and was well respected in her field.
The loss of our dear aunt, cherished sister and friend is great. Gwen was a strong role model who was devoted to her family. She leaves us all with great memories and wonderful family traditions that we will carry on in her name.
The family would like to thank the staff of Gibbon House, Forest Heights Long Term Care in Kitchener for their caring and kindness during Gwen’s stay there. Your compassion is deeply appreciated.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
