Thatcher, Jerry A. (Hector)

THATCHER, Jerry (Hector) Allen -
August 9, 1957 – December 25, 2018 –
Called home way too soon in his 62nd year. Number 21 is at rest.
Loving husband of Brenda Thatcher. Dear stepfather to Edward (Jeanine) and Leigh Noseworthy. Loving brother of John (Janet) Thatcher and brother-in-law to Jo-ann Berry (Jörg Wolter). Beloved son of the late Edward Thatcher (1999) and Sophie Thatcher (1992). Predeceased by his brother Jim Thatcher (2016), sister-in-law Julie Thatcher (2016), sister Janet Thatcher-Moore (2014), and his sister-in-law Pat (Eddy) Ryan. Hector will be forever remembered and cherished by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was a longtime employee of Beardmore Tannery in Acton until it closed. Hector went on to work at the University of Guelph until his health got the better of him.
Forever a fixture at Lloyd Dyer Park, where he himself played for many years. Hector relived the game by watching his nieces and nephews play, and in later years cheered on the players of the Rockwood Men’s League. Hector loved teaching his great nephews how to throw a ball, stand at the plate and pitch, as he himself was an awesome pitcher. He enjoyed many years serving as a volunteer on the Rockwood Fire Department.
As per Hector’s request, no funeral or visitation will be held. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051 or www.wallcustance.com.
Special thanks to the Guelph General Hospital and Hospice Wellington for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

For it’s one, two, three strikes - you’re out at the old ball game.

A tree will be planted in memory of Jerry (Hector) Thatcher in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 15, 2019 at 2:30 pm.
