Ronald, Patricia

RONALD, Patricia (nee Youd)
March 28, 1929 – March 31, 2019 -
Died peacefully full of love and dignity. Beloved mother of Karen (and partner David), and fabulous wife of Keith. Friend of many both come and gone.
Born in Crosby, U.K., Pat emigrated to Canada after a short stint in New York State. While at McGill University she met Keith Ronald. They married in 1954 and began a wonderful life of adventure, laughs, and love that lasted 63 years until his death in 2017. Karen, their daughter arrived in 1960 and Patricia left her career as a dietitian and chose to stay home raising Karen. As she cared for Karen and Keith, 70 Lyon Avenue and her friends, she hosting many people for meals and parties that were worthy of Julia Child comparisons.
Fundamental to Pat’s character was an innate kindness. She came to her kindness naturally having had family members who helped soldiers during both World Wars making food and tending to their wounds. Patricia always tried to Pay it Forward, and was a long time, committed canvasser for the Salvation Army, UNICEF and the Cancer Society in Guelph.
In 1969 she was awarded a M.Sc., from the University of Guelph and in 1975 a M.S.W. from Wilfrid Laurier University. She worked as a Social Worker at the Out Patient Clinic at Homewood supporting many people through the years with her professionalism, coupled with kindness. She ended her career with a private counselling practice. Pat was a member of: Ont. Pro Social Workers; Ont. College of Certified Social Workers; Clinical Member with Supervisory Status of American Assoc. for Marriage and Family Therapy; Ont. Assoc. for Marriage and Family Therapy; Board of Examiners in Sexual Therapy and Counselling in Ont., Ont. Association of Family Mediation, and Family Mediation Canada.
Pat and Keith enjoyed over 30 years spending time at The Oasis in Fort Lauderdale. They forged fast friendships with some lovely people who provided many moments of happiness in the warm sun. She so enjoyed traveling both far and near, learning the history, culture and people of lands afar like Tonga, Hong Kong, and Australia, and near like the Bowmanville Zoo. There, she and Keith were treated to inside tours where they hugged tiger cubs, patted elephants, and the like. Her adoration extended to domestic animals where Pat could be seen pushing fat, orange cats around on tea trolleys and befriending all things furry and cuddly.
For Pat, shopping was a tactical yet enjoyable pastime, whether in The Bazaar in Istanbul for leather goods, LaLaounis in the Old Town in Rhodes, Greece for gorgeous gold jewellery, and any good shoe store worldwide.
Beautiful music and good books soothed her soul throughout her life. Her favorite prayer was The Lord’s Prayer which Karen and Patricia uttered together shortly before her death.
No flowers please. We would ask in lieu of flowers, follow dear Pat’s lead and do something kind for a person you know who needs it.
Service will be private. Celebrations will be at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051 or
