Dr. Joseph Jagdath Persram, aged 83 of Guelph, Ontario passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of April 30th, 2019.
Born on October 27, 1935 in Letter Kenny, Guyana, Joe rejoins his cherished wife Maeḋḃ (Downey) Persram who passed away two years earlier. He was the 5th youngest of 10 children.
Joe was, among many things, a family doctor, teacher, painter, musician, acupuncturist, traveller, home chef, dear friend, mentor, proud father of four children (Nalini, Cara, Declan, Rajesh) and grandfather of four (Matthew, Nicole, Pascale, Sudesh).
He was a gentle giant who silently instilled all the virtues of a gentleman while always keeping his sense of humour to balance his pragmatism.
His dedication to other's well-being went beyond his family and led to a distinguished reputation for being an exceptional physician. He was the first person to score 100% on his final exam at the prestigious College of Physicians and Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland.
Joe was incredibly generous, supportive and loving. His joyful laughter and gift of spontaneous dancing, especially to Latin and Indian rhythms, flourished until his last days. His passing leaves an immeasurable gap equalled only to his everlasting inspiration.
Deep gratitude is extended to the staff of Peace of Mind home care, Chartwell Royal on Gordon retirement residence, and Riverbend Place Senior's Community for their continual and genuine care for Joe in his last two years.
The funeral will be held for Joe on Saturday, July 6th at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home, 206 Norfolk St, Guelph, ON, with a 10:30 am visitation followed by the 11 am service. The interment will be held at 3:30 pm that afternoon at Duffin Meadows Cemetery (section 15) at 2505 Brock Road North, Pickering, ON.
You will live in our souls forever.
"We weave ourselves the joy or fear
Of which the coming life is made,
And fill our future atmosphere
With sunshine or with shade.
The tissue of the Life to be
Weave with colors all our own,
And in the field of Destiny
We reap what we have sown."
