August 7, 1924 – January 5, 2020
Kristine MacLeod passed away peacefully at her home at The Elliott Long-Term Care Residence in Guelph in her 96th year on January 5, 2020. She will be sadly missed by her family. Beloved wife for 46 years to Gordon (pre-deceased 2007), she was a devoted and much-loved step-mother to Mary MacLeod and Andrew MacLeod (pre-deceased 2018) (Marian). She will be lovingly remembered by granddaughters Gillian MacLeod, Annie Vandenberg (Ian), Heather MacLeod (Dwayne), Olivia MacLeod (Stelios), and 6 great grandchildren – Oscar, Norah, Claire, Mabel, William and Kingsley.
Kristine was born and raised in Coventry, England. As a young woman, she was a proud member of the British Women’s Land Army during the war. She came to Canada in 1959 at the age of 35. In 1960, she met her husband Gordon MacLeod, a widower with two children and married him the next year, becoming a mother to Andrew and Mary.
Kristine was well-loved by many. She was sweet-natured, kind and sincere, appreciative, and a tireless giver who delighted in taking care of people. She volunteered as a personal support worker and helper to a physically challenged lady and an elderly couple for a number of years. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She was an avid knitter and seamstress, and enjoyed a good game of tennis and a brisk walk.
At Kristine’s request, a private cremation will take place.
A Celebration of Life will take place at The Elliott Community, 170 Metcalfe St., Guelph at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 1, 2020. A reception will follow.
As expressions of sympathy, contributions to the Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital or The Elliott Community would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors at The Elliott for their kind and attentive care of Kristine over the last 1 1/2 years.
