Johnstone, Wm. J. Leonard (Len)

JOHNSTONE, William John Leonard (Len) - passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington in Guelph on October 25, 2020 at the age of 76.

Len was the beloved husband and best friend of Juanita Landon. He was pre-deceased by his first wife Barbara Nancy Dunn.

Loving father of Mark Johnstone of Newmarket and Carrie (Jay) Johnstone-Terrey of Bradford, and step-father to Ray, Sean, Dale and Cory (Pam) Darling.

Len was a wonderful grandfather to Gavin and Nolan Johnstone, Keegan and Mackenna Terrey, Maddy, Ali, Kaesha, Naomi, Ryan and Ainsley Darling.

He was a great brother to his sisters Juanita Moores, Shelley (Dave) Brown and Brooke Walters. He was pre-deceased by his sister Becky Brown and his brothers-in-law Jim Moores and Ed Walters.

He was loved and will be missed by many nieces and nephews. His affable good nature combined with his kindness, compassion, humour and empathy will always be remembered by his family.

Len graduated from Bemidji State University and obtained his M.Ed. at Wayne State University. His teaching career spanned 35 years, taking him to Michigan, British Columbia and Toronto. Len enjoyed his last years as a V.P. At Robert Service Public School in Scarborough. His love for teaching and developing young minds combined with extra-curricular sports was a passion. Mr. “J” will be fondly re-membered for the positive impact he made with countless students he taught and coached.

Recently, as the past-president of the Royal City Men’s Club and the Wasaga Beach Men’s Probus, Len used his sense of humour and binders of jokes to keep the groups laughing – all in the spirit of fellowship.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington.

A celebration of Len’s life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com – Condolences can be sent to the family via the funeral home website below Len’s notice.

Memorial contributions to Hospice Wellington would be greatly appreciated.
