Johnston, Margaret E.

JOHNSTON, Margaret Elizabeth

With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Johnston (nee Elliott) on November 14, 2020, in her 100th year.

For 63 years she was the beloved wife of the late Robert (2009). She was the loving mother of Carol Preater of Guelph, Mary Riddell (Andy) of Stratford and Richard Johnston (Maureen Walter) of Toronto. Margaret was also the loving grandmother of Sarah, Jill, Jennie, Maggie, Pam, Rachel and Maeve and loving great-grandmother of Kate, Ruby, Molly, Ethan, Madelyn, Ben, Declan, Connor, Zack and Percy. She will be remembered by many nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Bayham Township on a dairy farm, she was the daughter of the late George and Pearl (Lowrie) Elliott and sister to the late James (Shirley) Elliott.

After completing high school in Tillsonburg Margaret attended MacDonald Institute, Guelph where she and Robert met while he was a student at the Ontario Agricultural College. They married in 1946 after Robert returned from service overseas during WWII and settled in Guelph to raise their family.

Margaret was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Harmony Circle, IODE, College Women's Club and Mac Club. She enjoyed cooking for friends and family, travelling with Robert, playing bridge, golfing, curling, knitting, reading and family cottage time near Kincardine.

She will be deeply missed and always remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and as a lovely lady.

Many thanks to Wellington Park Retirement Home staff, Right at Home caregivers, Paramed caregivers and Bayshore nurses for their care and support especially over the last few months.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519 822-0051. Condolences can be sent via funeral home website below Margaret's notice.

Memorial contributions to Knox Presbyterian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Margaret E. Johnston in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
