BULHAM, Annemie – It is with unbearable sadness that we share that Annemie Bulham (known as Anne and Anneke) passed away on January 20,2024.
Born in Gunung Pati (Java) Indonesia, Anne called many places home over her 86 years- including Deventer & Apeldoorn in the Netherlands before immigrating to Canada, specifically Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1967. In 2008 she moved to Guelph Ontario. Each country and city was a unique chapter in her remarkable life, but she always considered the Netherlands her true home.
As a young person Anne experienced the atrocities of war. As a result, having survived internment camps, malnutrition and illness she was the first to tell you how blessed she was to have lived the life she had.
In the Netherlands she became a nurse and met Willy (Bill) George Bulham, who became her husband of 58 years. As newlyweds and with “not one word of English”, they set off to Winnipeg, Canada, where she worked hard to get her registered nurse designation. Throughout her career she proved that her warm and caring spirit made her an excellent nurse.
Family was always the most important part of her life. As youngest sister to her two brothers Jaap and Willy. As beloved Tante Ann to all her nieces and nephews. And finally after waiting longer than she would have hoped, as a mother to her two children Bill and Tessa.
She loved being a mother. She loved getting involved at their schools and bringing them to their activities like hockey, piano and ballet. She supported them no matter what they wanted to do and made sure they had the best education throughout their lives.
Over the past 15 years she also has enjoyed being the best dessert- pushing, mischievous and loving grandma / oma to her three grandkids Emil, Shea and Otis.
Anne had a smile that could light up any room and would sing out loud any time she could. She was also a great cook, known for elaborate Indonesian dishes that she loved to prepare and share with others. As such, Anne’s life was filled with many friends wherever she lived. She was always surrounded by people who loved to be in her company- whether it was for talking, eating, singing or playing cards.
She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her especially her loving husband Bill, who provided exceptional care for her while she was sick during these last few months.
