Bruce Ravensdale
September 13, 1947 – June 11, 2025
Surrounded by his family, Bruce peacefully passed away at his home in Guelph, Ontario. Loving and devoted Dad to Michael and Andrea (Ryan) and very proud Grandpa to Acacia, Isla and Eamon Ravensdale and Ava and Mia Maeck.
Predeceased by his parents Harold (2004) and Joan (2000), Bruce also leaves behind his sister Susan Field Malis (Howard), brothers Tony (Kathie) and Paul (Chantel) Ravensdale and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and teammates from across Canada, the United States and the globe.
Bruce was very fortunate to have three great loves in his lifetime, the late Jackie Ravensdale (2016), the loving and devoted mother of his children who also helped him build the successful Ravens Knit business, the late Jane Ravensdale (2014) who he credits for helping him become the best version of himself, and Patricia Mazurenko, whom he met in his twilight years and spent his last 10 wonderful years. Bruce was also incredibly proud of, and loved Patricia’s children, grandchildren, sisters, brother and extended family.
Bruce grew up in Cobourg, Ontario. At an early age he showed tremendous athletic talent and excelled in many sports, most notably in hockey and football. He went on to play Junior Hockey for the Cobourg Cougars before deciding that being a quarterback was his true passion. Bruce received a full scholarship to play football at East Stroudsburg State University in Pennsylvania where he played for one season, before deciding to come back to Canada to play in many successful seasons for the University of Guelph Gryphons. His name remains on the Honour Wall at Alumni Stadium – something he was incredibly proud of. He was a proud Gryphon, attended many alumni events and created the Bruce Ravensdale Football Scholarship. As a football alumnus, Bruce found his experience at the University of Guelph to be transformative and wanted to give back to future members of the football program.
Bruce found great joy in watching his grandchildren participate in many sports. He was their biggest fan and attended many of their games, competitions and track and field meets right up until his passing.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who helped Bruce along his health journey, and his wonderful friends who continued to visit him, write and call him which brought a smile to his face.
A celebration of Bruce’s extraordinary life will be held on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Cutten Fields (190 College Ave East, Guelph) from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to wear red or their favourite Gryphon gear in Bruce’s honour.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jumpstart Program in Bruce’s memory would be a fitting tribute. Sports changed the course of his life and he would love to give children the same opportunity.
A tree will be planted in memory of Bruce K. Ravensdale in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
