CHEN, Choua – November 14, 1944 – October 10, 2024
Choua Chen, passed away at Guelph General Hospital on October 10th, 2024, at the age of 79.
Beloved husband of Boun Yong for 48 years. Loving father of Catherine (Ben), Shawn (Mackenzie), Scott (Kayla) and Steven, and loving grandfather of Lucas. Also survived by his sisters Chen Yueqing and Chen Yuejuan, and his nieces and nephews Zhong Pan (Qingzhen), Li Ying (Sucai), Li Jin (Wenhua), and Zhong Yang. He was preceded by his parents Chen Shengsi and Li Zicai, and sister Chen Yuexiang.
Choua was born in Cambodia and lived much of his early life in Laos. He immigrated to Canada with his wife Boun Yong in 1979, finding their way to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, where they raised their four children, before finally settling in Guelph.
Choua wore many hats, from shop owner to working in manufacturing, before retiring at 65. A lifelong learner with a passion for personal growth, Choua dedicated himself to continuous improvement. He pursued advanced qualifications, honed his English and cooking skills, and maintained a rigorous fitness routine. He also enjoyed interacting with his community, sharing baked goods with neighbours and friends during holidays.
Choua was a kind soul, and there was nothing he cherished more than spending time with his family, both near and far. He selflessly dedicated himself to his family’s well-being, always putting their needs above his own.
We will miss his stories, his joy, and his laughter.
