Dorothy Fay Newson (“Fay”), nee Vrooman
March 7, 1930 – June 17, 2025
Surrounded by her three children, Fay Newson passed away peacefully at the Kincardine hospital on Tuesday, June 17 at the age of 95.
Born in Fergus, Fay was the daughter of Melvin and Maud Vrooman, sister to Everett, Gwen, and Jack (all deceased), as well as Lorna and Marjorie (deceased in infancy and childhood).
She married Ronald Newson (deceased) in 1961, and they raised their family in Scarborough. They later lived in Brampton and Guelph before moving to Kincardine in 2020.
Fay was the much loved mother of Denise (John), Brent (Andrene), and Blake (Susan). She was the devoted grandmother of Erin (Will), Philip (Katrina), Andrew (Melanie), Rachel (Dan), Mark, Kathryn, and Jake. She had four great-grandchildren (Natalie, Sadie, Aubrey and Clara), and another due to arrive imminently. Fay truly delighted in each new addition to her family.
An accomplished pianist and piano teacher, Fay was also a talented artist, and her paintings were admired by many. She found joy in the beauty of nature, and Kincardine sunsets provided many wonderful moments in the last few years of her life. She had a playful sense of humour that never entirely abandoned her.
Fay’s quiet and unwavering faith in God was her compass through life and made her unafraid to face death. She found meaningful work for several years of her retirement providing office assistance to the chaplains at the Toronto Pearson Airport.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Trillium Court for their kind and compassionate care over the past five years, with thanks as well to Teresa and Maria for their regular and much-enjoyed visits. We also greatly appreciate the palliative care staff at the Kincardine hospital who did so much to ease the last few days of Fay’s life, both for her and for her family.
Visitation will be held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, on Tuesday, June 24 from 12:00 – 2:00pm followed by a graveside service at 2:30pm at Belsyde Cemetery, 400 Thistle St, Fergus.
