Providing Cremation and Funeral Services to Guelph and Area since 1941.
Dr. Douglas M. Whelpdale
Oct 21st, 1942 – April 14th, 2025
It is with great sadness and great love that we announce Doug’s passing. He will be missed by his loving wife, Lynn; his daughters Tanya (Joe), Erica (Bob); his step-children Ben (Jess), Vanessa (Liz); his grandchildren Miranda, Thea, and Charlie; his sister Elizabeth (John), his brother Edward (Marta); and his sisters-in-law Debbie (Dell), and Cathy (Kim).
Doug was a man that lived his life with passion. Passion for nature, passion for his work, passion for all people that he encountered, and mostly passion for those that he loved. He was always the voice of calm in any storm.
Doug graduated with his Ph.D from University of Toronto in 1970. He spent his career with Environment Canada as a Research Scientist and Manager. He made significant contributions to atmospheric science, particularly in the areas of acid precipitation, sulfur emissions, and climate change impacts. He was known and respected internationally.
After retirement, Doug and Lynn enjoyed many trips together, hikes that allowed his impressive bird count to grow, swinging golf clubs and throwing curling rocks with their friends, and catching beautiful sunsets in their backyard. Above all, Doug cherished time spent with his family, whether it was gathering for holidays, sharing laughs around the dinner table, or cheering on grandkids from the sidelines.
We would like to thank the staff at Riverside Glen, Puslinch neighbourhood for the love and care that they provided to Doug for the past 1 1/2 years, and to all of us at the end.
Donations to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
