GLENNA TOWLER
1929 – 2024
After a wait of almost 8 years, Glenna Elizabeth Towler has been reunited with the love of her life.
Born and raised in New York, she was the only child of H. Elizabeth (Berry) Ruff and Industrialist Samuel P. Ruff. Business responsibilities, caused the family to share their time between Syracuse, NY and Guelph, ON.
A graduate of the University of Guelph’s MacDonald Institute, she was employed at the Royal Bank of Canada. In 1949 she met RAF veteran Henry Towler, who had emigrated from Hastings, England, as part of the Veterans post-war program. They married in 1951. Together their family grew to include three children (Richard, Helen, Robert) and five grandchildren (Brigid, Shannon, Bronte, Kennedy, Brock). They always called Guelph their home.
Glenna believed in the power of “creating an experience” for people. From organizing birthday parties, to Masonic dinners, to poolside activities at Woodlawn Towers – she made sure that every detail contributed to the overall theme and enjoyment.
A faithful member of St. George’s Anglican Church for her entire life, she was a strong (behind the scenes) supporter of Christmas Bazaars, parish dinners, Servers Guild and Choir. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Elliot Home and Evergreen Center (and held on to these memories in her final days).
Glenna entered into God’s nearer presence on November 9th, 2024. She joins Henry (2017), Helen (2020), her parents and countless relatives and friends.
Following her precise wishes, there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and the family will gather for a private scattering.
Deepest Thanks to the staff of Heritage House in St. Jacobs for their kindness, caring, and patience in Mom’s final years.
