Providing Cremation and Funeral Services to Guelph and Area since 1941.
BEATTIE, Grace Ann – Grace (nee Cooper) Beattie died peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2023, in the early morning at St Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph, where she lived with dignity and comfort in the skilled and compassionate care of the LTC staff. Loved ones were at her bedside in her final days and for her final breaths. Grace was in her 79th year.
Beloved mother of Cathy Langford (Jay) and Anne Wylie (Lance). Cherished stepmother of Fiona Robinson (Chip), Michael Beattie and Joanna Boyer (Robert). Loving grandmother of Judah and Ione (Cathy), Nehemiah and Elianna (Anne), Amanda, Joshua, Rachel (Michael), John Robert, James, Peter (Joanna), Daniel, Sarah, Breah, Caitlin (Fiona), Maiah, Leah, Cai, Sean (Christine). Dear sister of Myron (Ina), Ernie and Joe (Debbie) and sister-in-law of Martha (Charlie). Dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Fondly remembered by first husband Bill Langford. Treasured by the friends whose lives she touched with her loving grace, encouragement and support, many of whom saw her as a mother figure. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bob Beattie, siblings Ralph, Charlie, Marcia, Vicki and Tom, and stepdaughter Christine.
Born in Plainfield, Indiana, where she grew up with a large family in a simple farmhouse, and found joy in nature. Spent the 1960s in California where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a teaching diploma, and met Bill. Married in 1970 and moved to Montreal where Cathy and Anne were born. She called Guelph home since 1981. When Cathy and Anne left for university, she did the same, earning a diploma in Art Therapy. Married Bob in 1999, was welcomed into his family, and felt privileged for her time in Guatemala. Returned to Guelph to spend time with her adored grandchildren. She viewed the world with an artist’s eye. She drew her strength and identity from her Christian faith and was devoted to her church community. The legacy she leaves is the many lives she poured her love into.
All are welcome to remember and celebrate her life at a memorial service to be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at 2:00pm at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, with reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.
