RANGE, Hanne-Lotte – Passed away November 2, 2024, in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Born in Bremen, Germany Oct. 16, 1922.
The family is very saddened by the passing of Hanne-Lotte Range, beloved wife of the late Hans Range (February 22, 1995).
The family decided upon the urging from a friend, already in Guelph, to emigrate to Canada in 1953. Dad, being a skilled tradesman, found work immediately. Six months later, Hanne-Lotte with their two children Birgit and Juergen in tow emigrated from Bremen, Germany.
Leaving Bremerhafen, West Germany across a terrifying North Atlantic Ocean, during a horrendous winter storm (a journey which usually lasted 6 days, took 13 days) Mom thought was never going to end. Mom later told us that she feared we would never arrive at our first stop in Canada, Saint John, N.B. The captain, crew and the old, converted freighter CP Beaverbrae defied all odds and safely we had arrived in Canada! From Saint John to Montreal, Toronto, then finally Guelph by train was another journey, but wonderful. We were going to our new home to be a complete family with Dad! What a fantastic, happy reunion after 6 long months separated by country and ocean.
Canada, an awesome land of unlimited opportunity but facing a language barrier, but not to fear, that too was overcome.
Mom was house proud, moving into her newly built home (Nov. 1955), something that seemed like an impossible dream back in war torn Germany at that time.
Hanne-Lotte loved to entertain, bake torts and cook roladin (a German delicacy). Those meals were delicious!
Mom and Dad loved to travel, visiting many countries on five continents and of course Canada from the east coast to the west coast.
Oh, the beautiful memories Mom cherished to her end! She also, in later years always opened the front door, rang the doorbell and said, “I love you Canada”.
Hanne-Lotte leaves her children Birgit (Ross Bairstow) and Juergen (Suzanne).
Hanne-Lotte fiercely loved her children and was very proud of her grandchild Kendra Mantha, her partner Andreas Sinkovits, and her aspiring daughters Paige Mantha and Evie Sinkovits.
Mom was happy and beautiful until the end, and she knew we cared and loved her immensely.
Looking up into the sky’s abyss there is a brilliant shining star we know is Mom. She is sitting there holding her fur babies, Toby and Sonya.
We love you, Mom. You will be in our hearts and thoughts always.
