EVANS, James (Jim) Bernald – It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our Father who passed peacefully in his sleep in the comfort of his home on the morning of November 12th at the age of 89.
He fought a long hard battle with COPD and would not have lasted as long as he did without the love and support of his family and his stubbornness, humor and the love he had for of his wife of 65 years.
Jim was born in Harriston, Ontario on May 1st, 1935 to his late parents Lillian Evans (nee Whatmore) and William Evans. He is predeceased by his brothers Bill, Percy, Popeye, Bob and sisters Lillian and Joyce.
He is survived by the love of his life his wife Mildred Caroline Evans (nee Steinhagen) for the past 65 years and his 7 children Debra Steinhagen, James Evans, William Evans, Lillian Evans, Carol Evans, Bradley Evans, and Jeffery Evans (Rachelle). He is survived by 12 cherished grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He worked hard all of his life and was employed by Malleable iron, Rockwell and then Hematite until his retirement. Once he retired, he helped around the house and even learned to cook under Mom’s guidance.
He loved watching Wrestling, Hockey, and Jerry Springer, He loved getting his digs into the leaf fans in the family as his favorite team was any team but the Mapleleafs. In his younger days he liked to fish and play golf and cards.
He is going to be greatly missed by his loving wife, family, and friends.
We would like to thank the PSWs that helped with his care. They were very kind, caring and a great help to us all.
Cremation has taken place, and we will not be having a celebration of life at this time as per Jim’s wishes. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy Canada which is a cause near and dear to his heart.
A tree will be planted in memory of James (Jim) B. Evans in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
