EDWARDS, Joan Elizabeth – Beloved mother, grandmother and friend, fell asleep in death on Sunday, November 24, 2024. She is survived by her children George (Nancy) Cobb, Veronica (Jim) Gray and Scott (Cynde) Light, and her grandchildren Rebecca (Sam) Turner, Randi (Josh) Magarinhos, Lance (Mariah) Light and Luke Light. She was predeceased by her parents George and Elizabeth Albulets and her husbands Randy Cobb, Jim Light and Hal Edwards.
Joan was born in Verwood, Saskatchewan, on June 2, 1927 to George and Betty Albulets. She was an only child and had the support and encouragement of both her parents. She completed high school at age 14 and went on to graduate at the top of her class in Pharmacy at just 19.
She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 11, 1987, and was an active member of every congregation she attended. She was zealous for the ministry and pioneered for 22 years. In her 70’s she learned Chinese and continued pioneering in that field for many years.
Joan was a woman of amazing abilities – she was a pharmacist for 50 years, working alongside her father for many of these. She also ran an oil exploration company for many years with her husband Hal.
Joan was a pilot and even flew the Goodyear blimp once! She loved to travel – she vacationed regularly in Mexico, spent time in the Caribbean and across the pond in England and traveled over much of the United States.
Joan especially loved to spend time with her family – often including all the kids in family vacations and enjoying family dinners regularly. She loved a good lighthearted conversation and enjoyed the humor that could be found in any situation. Funny family stories were a popular topic in the evenings. She also loved a good game of cards – especially bridge!
She was also a very hospitable host – opening her home to many friends, both new and old and trying food from many different cultures. Of course, chocolate was always a favorite!
Joan was always happy to be out in the ministry and studied the Bible with many people, both in the English and the Chinese fields.
In her later years, when she was more restricted by her health, she looked forward to the coming new system of things. She appreciated the loving help her family provided during these years.
