MURPHY, Lynne – September 1, 1946 – October 30, 2025
Lynne passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on October 30, 2025, at the age of 79.
Lynne was the beloved wife of nearly sixty years to Art, a proud and devoted mother to David and Heather (Scott), and a cherished grandmother to Alec, Owen, and Robert. She was the dearest sister of Malcolm (Joy), Sandra, John (June), and Elaine (Kent), and a loyal friend to many.
Lynne was a tireless advocate, volunteer, and champion for numerous important causes. She coordinated volunteer efforts for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Campaign and received the Volunteer of the Year award from the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada in recognition of her exceptional commitment to its mission and values. She also received a Volunteer Service Award for ten years of dedicated service.
During her decade with the MS Society, Lynne conceived, organized, and nurtured the Live and Learn program at the Guelph chapter, creating a supportive community for those affected by multiple sclerosis. She also gave her time generously to Habitat for Humanity and served as an ambassador for the Ride 4 Chemo Chairs campaign, supporting her dear friend Cyndy McLean and others in need.
Lynne often remarked that she never liked to stay in one place for too long. Born in Rothesay on the Isle of Bute, Scotland, she immigrated to Canada with her family in 1955 at the age of eight. She spent the following decade in Toronto before moving to California at nineteen with her fiancé and future husband, Art.
While living in California, Lynne and Art welcomed their beloved children, David and Heather, who immediately became the center of her world. There was never a mother more devoted or prouder of her children.
In 1976, the Murphy family returned to Toronto. After David and Heather left home, Lynne and Art lived for a time in Cambridge and Georgetown before finally settling in Guelph, where they made their home ever since.
Beyond her family, friends and volunteer work, Lynne’s greatest joy was singing. She was a dedicated member of the Dublin Street United Church Choir, the Light Shines Choir, and the Silvertones Choir, finding great happiness in sharing music and fellowship with others.
In keeping with Lynne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather at Dublin Street United Church in Guelph on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with a service of remembrance at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in the church.

Lynne always said, “no matter what life gives you, give more back”. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, or the Canadian Cancer Society, organizations that reflected Lynne’s generous spirit and lifelong commitment to helping others.
A tree will be planted in memory of Lynne Murphy in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
