BEATSON, Mary Isabel (nee Cassie) – It is with heavy yet peaceful hearts, we announce the passing of our dear Mom in her 101st year. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Mary passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 3, 2024, surrounded by the love of family at St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Guelph.
Mary will be greatly missed by her children Ron Beatson (Barb), Bruce Beatson (Deana), Linda Newens (Scott), Jim Beatson (Debbie), and Cathy Koch (Paul). She leaves treasured memories with her 13 grandchildren whom she always referred to as her “Bakers dozen” (Trevor, John, Krystle, Jeremy, Abraham, Heath, Jessica, Zach, Richard, Brian, Amanda, Matthew and Cassandra) and 15 great-grandchildren. Mary will be missed by residents and staff on 3North. “Miss Mary” was spunky, witty and determined.
Predeceased by her loving husband and soulmate Bob (2023), her mother Christina (Myrtle) and father John, her brothers Clifford and Robert (Vera), nephew Randy, and sisters and brothers in law James (Jean), Nan (George), George (Betty), Mary (Robert), John, Cathy (Jack), Betty (Ted).
Family was Mom’s priority. She would always check in with us to see who would be at the farm on the weekend so she could make their favourite meal. She was a great cook and baker, known for her famous “farmer buns”. She was a talented seamstress and quilter and sold her goods at the Guelph market for many years.
Mary worked at Beatty Brothers, Massey Harris, Fleet Aircraft and waitressed on the ship S.S. Keewatin. Mary met Bob at a dance in Hespeler in 1948 and they married July 22, 1950 in Fergus. Bob & Mary built a house on Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph and raised 4 children there before moving to the farm in Puslinch in 1958 where they had their 5th child. They farmed for many years until moving to The Royal on Gordon retirement residence and then to St. Joseph’s Health Centre in 2017.
Special thanks to Dr. Stemerdink, Dr. Bluhm, nurses, PSWs, housecleaning, kitchen and all ancillary staff on 3North, Lilac Lane. The exceptional care, love and kindness shown to Mom will never be forgotten.
