FINNEY, Rachel – Known for her beautiful perennial and vegetable gardens, her healing hands and deep inner strength, Rachel Finney passed away peacefully on July 12th at Hospice Wellington after a 9 year journey with cancer.
Rachel led a remarkable life, growing up in the Himalayan mountains of India, one highlight of which was having the Dalai Lama sample her fudge in her home economics class. Rachel went to university in the US, India and England before coming to Canada. As a speech pathologist, she touched the lives of hundreds of students. She was an avid learner of multiple healing modalities and was known for her remarkable intuition and healing hands. Her passion was the creation of gem essences through her company, Living Light Essences.
Words cannot express how wonderful the Hospice Wellington team were in their compassionate care for Rachel, enabling her to have a peaceful transition. We are deeply grateful to multiple health practitioners in her life including Dr. Richard Dodd, Jonathan Ball, Dr. George Dewitt, Shaolin Master Li, Scott Logan, Dr. Paul Roros, Scott Brueckman, her family doctor, Dr. Baig and her staff, the Guelph Palliative Team, especially Catrina Curtis and Gord Alton. We are deeply grateful to them for contributing to Rachel’s health and wellbeing.
Rachel is survived by her son, Fred Wood and daughter Kirstin Wood, grandchildren Celeste Oki Wood and Zachary, Saffron and Julian Binder, her brother, Paul Finney (Pam), nephew Luke Finney and sister, Joy Finney.
An informal celebration of her life will be held at her home and garden on a date to be announced.
