SYDOR, RICHARD CRAIG – Richard passed peacefully surrounded by the eternal love of his family at Hospice Wellington, in the early evening hours of Monday, May 6, 2024 at the age of 57. Richard bravely faced a 6.5 month battle with Glioblastoma and fought until the very end. He never once complained. He approached this challenge like he did life – with quiet determination, incredible strength and love for his family.
Richard was the cherished husband of 31 years to his wife and soulmate, Vicki (nee Loeb), devoted father of Katie and David. His precious dog, Sophie, his cat, Toby, and his bunny, Smudge will be lost without their Daddy. Richard was a loving and caring son of Ruth-Ann, beloved brother of Christa Douma (Jason), Amy Nistico (Patrick), and Stephen, and is predeceased by his younger brother, Wesley, who he missed dearly every day. Richard was a loved brother-in-law to Stephen Loeb (Ginny), Graham Loeb (Janice), Karen Loeb (Camillo Natale) and Lori Loeb (Paul MacKenzie). Richard will be fondly remembered and missed by his many nieces and nephews, especially, Emma Douma, Stephanie Loeb (Brent Martyniuk) and Matt Loeb (Kea).
Richard graduated from the University of Waterloo with a degree in Geological Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Earth Sciences. He devoted 20 years of his professional life to protecting the public from the harmful effects of groundwater contamination. In 2012, he decided to leave environmental consulting and pursue his passion for Day Trading and founded his own company.
Richard was a relatively quiet man with a huge heart, incredible generosity and an amazing sense of humour that brought those who knew him many laughs and wonderful memories. He was fiercely loyal to and protective of those he loved and would do anything for them.
He was a natural teacher. He taught Vicki and his children the practical, essential aspects of life – how to change their tires, assemble Ikea furniture, build a deck, and the value of spreadsheets. He was most happy at the cottage, growing zinnias and vegetables, having a Corona with lime with the neighbours at happy hour and making Rice Krispie squares (and eating them all in one sitting)!
Richard will be honoured and remembered at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:00am. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on May 17, 2024, at 11:00am. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.
