FLECHNER, Richard Emil – (January 17, 1937 – January 6, 2023).
On the evening of Friday, January 6, 2023, Richard passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Maryhill, Ontario.
After 19.5 years of being a widower, he has rejoined his high school sweetheart, his wife Nancy (Clement) Flechner. He was the son of the late Emil Flechner and Nina Piiroinen. Richard has loved and cared deeply for his daughter Sandra, grandson Daniel and granddaughter Maya. He is also survived by his cousin Annelli and husband Gustav Allen and many other relatives in Finland. Dear uncle of Barbara (Doug) Riorden, Jim (Shannon) Ehrismann, Ann (Joe) Afonso, David Ehrismann and their families.
Over the past 19 1/2 years, doctors would say that there must be an angel watching out over him. Thank you, mom, for being that angel and giving us all those years with him. Alzheimer’s is a progressive disease robbing everyone, slowly overtime.
Thank you, dad, for everything. Thank you for being the best grandpa that Daniel and Maya could ever ask for. Thank you for never forgetting who we were or our names. We will never forget you.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 1:30 pm at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com). Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends and family are welcomed to enjoy a time of fellowship and refreshments at the family home after the interment.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer’s Society, MS Society, or KW Humane Society would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Richard E. Flechner in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
