POLE, Robert James Duncan “Bob” –
It is with tremendously heavy hearts that we announce Bob’s passing on November 7, 2024 at Hospice Wellington, Guelph in his 84th year.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 46 years Elaine (nee Billings) (2015). Survived by his adoring daughter Andrea, loving son Brent (Erin) and grandchildren Liam and Sarah Pole, who were the apples of his eye. Also survived by his sisters Shirley McKerrall and Audrey Newell, brother-in-law Ralph (Chick) Billings, and sisters-in-law Susan Kargus and Barbara Billings. Bob will be greatly missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and neighbours.
Born in Glencoe, Ontario, Bob’s early passion and prowess for hockey led to a successful stint with the Chatham Maroons, followed by an opportunity to play for the Guelph Regals. It is here where he met Guelph native Elaine, the love of his life, and the city became home. Always looking for opportunities to give back, Bob coached within the Guelph Minor Hockey Association for over twenty years, and volunteered with various other organizations, including Action Read, Homewood Health, and the Alzheimer Society of Guelph. His greatest joy, though, was time spent with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and a glass of wine.
Dad was the rock, the glue, and the heart of our family. Our loss is immeasurable, but we take some comfort in knowing that his was a life so well and fully lived.
A heartfelt thank you to the devoted staff and volunteers of Hospice Wellington, Guelph for their exceptional care and compassion.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph General Hospital Foundation or Hospice Wellington, Guelph would be greatly appreciated by the family.
