LIGHT, Ronald Alfred James – It’s with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Light on December 16, 2025.
Ron was in his 100th year and will be deeply missed by his wife of 73 years Verian (nee Joslin) and his three boys David (Angela), Richard (Debra) and Stephen (Irene) all of Guelph. He was a proud and loving Grandpa to Stephanie Davies (Brian), Alexander (Sarah), Adam, Jane Palmer, Anne Erb (Kyle), Kristopher Cherry (Stephanie), Louise Thompson (Jeff) and Elaine. Devoted Great Grampa to Eli, Anabelle & Amelia Thompson, William & Thomas Cherry, Cameron & Claire Erb, Ellie & Stella Palmer, Max, Thomas & Freddie Light, Jamie Neil, Hannah & Oliver Davies. He was a loving Uncle to Brian (Sharilyn) and Karen Simmons (Michael). Ron was predeceased by his brother Keith, sister-in-law Norma, brother-in-law Warren Joslin (Delores).
Ron was born in Ottawa on May 4th, 1926, to Eva and Keith Light. Raised in Ottawa and attended university at McGill in Montreal where he met Verian. They were married in 1952 and started their life together in Toronto then moved to Port Colborne and Buffalo before settling in Guelph in 1959 where he worked at the United Cooperatives of Ontario (UCO) on Speedvale Avenue until his retirement in 1988.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at the Elliott Community for their compassion and attentiveness over the years he spent there, always treating him with dignity and kindness.

Donations in Ron’s memory can be made to the Elliott Community, The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
A tree will be planted in memory of Ronald A.J. Light in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
