McEVOY, Shirley (nee Creary) – Of Guelph, passed away on July 7, 2024, after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was surrounded by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Shirley was born on July 28, 1947 in Fergus, Ontario and lived with her family in Elora, until the age of 15.
Shirley was a wonderful Mom and best friend to her daughter Christine (Mike) and a proud Grandmother to Mackenzie (Janet) and Brittany (Jeffrey). Shirley was the beloved Mom to her son Earl (Laura) and a loving Grandmother to Betty Anne (Adam), Travis and to great-granddaughter Lucey. Shirley was loved by her many siblings Marilyn (predeceased by Doug) and Len (Robin), Mary (Steve), John (Pat). She was predeceased by Earlene, Robert, William and Donald (Cathy). She will forever be missed by her sister in law and friend, Celia. Shirley will be missed by many very special nieces and nephews. Shirley cherished her friendship with Linda Nicholls and Ann Boyle Croft. Many wonderful times were spent with the Grandmother Trio.
Shirley was employed by Biltmore Hats for many years and was extremely proud of the work that she did. Shirley was a very talented and skilled hat maker, where she made fur felt and RCMP hats. When they closed Biltmore in Canada and moved to Texas, Shirley was asked to go there and share her expertise.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice Wellington. Shirley received such excellent, respectful and compassionate care from all of the staff for the week that she was living there. The family appreciates everything that they did for Shirley.
Thank you to all those who visited, sent messages, and called to wish Mom the best while in Hospice. She really felt special and appreciated everyone’s love.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, on Saturday, July 13, from 10:00-11:00am. Funeral service will directly follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00am. For anyone that would like to attend the service remotely, can do so via Zoom by using this link. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.
