Hornberger, Thelma Marie – Thelma passed away on Friday, March 29th, 2024, at the age of 102 years old. She died peacefully at Riverside Glen Long Term Care home.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Winnifred Hornberger; and siblings Frank Hornberger and Marjorie Allen.
Thelma was a wonderful aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She and her best friend Phyllis took all the nieces and nephews on several adventures, day trips and never failed to end the day with a game of cards.
She will be missed by all her friends at Holy Rosary Church and the Catholic Women’s League, who have all supported her throughout her life and her recent short stay in Long Term Care. Although independent and determined, Thelma loved and appreciated the support of all her friends, especially Brenda and Don.
Thelma showed a genuine commitment and determination in everything she did. Whether it was completing every last detail on the family tree from decades ago or polishing off an entire tin of freshly baked cookies in minutes, she never stopped a task until she was finished. She loved learning and continued to seek out new opportunities and experiences throughout her life after her career in nursing.
Thelma will be dearly missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her. In her memory, donations may be made to The Plan International, where Thelma first became a foster parent in July of 1973 and has continued to provide support for many children for the past 50 years.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, April 8th, 2024 at 10:30am at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 175 Emma Street, Guelph, with a reception to follow. Burial at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).
A tree will be planted in memory of Thelma M. Hornberger in the Wall-Custance Memorial.
