WASHKURAK, Walter “Wally” — Peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 82. Loving father of Joey (Lisa), Lisa (Gino), and Leigh Anne (Benny). Proud grandfather of Austin (Illie), Alexandra, Adrianna, Jayden, Nolan, Teagan, and Jonah. He will be deeply missed by his nieces, nephews, and friends.
Predeceased by his parents William and Mary, and brothers Steve and Joe. Wally’s passion for sports was evident throughout his life—football and hockey were at the heart of who he was. He dedicated many years to coaching football at Ross, where his leadership helped secure numerous District 10 championships and one CWOSSA title. His commitment to the game and to his players left a lasting legacy in the community.
Wally was also well known for his involvement in hockey, beginning with Stanley Stick and continuing through to his years running the Guelph Junior B team. His love for the game and dedication to fostering young talent were unmatched.
In retirement, Wally cherished his Tuesdays and Thursdays spent with his retired teachers’ group, sharing stories and laughter.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Crystal for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness she showed Wally from his first day to his last at St. Joe’s. We also extend our sincere thanks to the palliative care doctors at St. Joe’s for their expertise, support, and compassion during this difficult time. Their dedication brought comfort and dignity to Wally’s final days, and we are deeply appreciative.
Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051. A private family service will be held in January, as per Wally’s wishes. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Guelph General Hospital Foundation or Hospice Wellington would be greatly appreciated by the family.
