McEACHNIE, Clara Margaret (nee Barfoot) It is with mixed emotions that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, on January 31, 2020 at the age of 93. Sadness because we will all miss her terribly, but relief that her struggles have ended.
Predeceased by her husband, Wm. John (1990). Survived by her two daughters Diane Gray and Cheryl (Ed 2010) Wojnarowski, both of Guelph. She will be so missed by her grandchildren John and Marie Josée Gray, of Napanee and Jennifer and Tony Alpe of Fergus. Also special to her heart are two great-grandchildren Avery and Laney Alpe. Also survived by brother-in-law Don Smith (Fausta 2016) of Orangeville. Predeceased by her seven siblings.
Clara was born in Keppel Twp., Ontario to Ezra and Margaret Barfoot. She later moved to Guelph, where she was employed by W.C. Wood Company for 28 years. After retirement, she joined the Ladies Auxiliary of the Guelph Legion where she volunteered for 25 years. It brought her much joy, as did the many weekends at her Belwood Lake cottage, 40 years of annual Wasaga Beach gatherings and too many euchre games to count. In life, she worked hard and played harder. She forged many lifelong friendships along the way and will be remembered by all.
Thanks so much to the 5th floor nursing staff at Grand River Hospital for their care and compassion.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 1 pm. Burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 234, 57 Watson Pkwy. S., Guelph.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
