SNELL, Jean Gregg (nee Marshall) – Of Guelph. Passed away on October 28, 2010 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of John Snell. Mother of Elizabeth (Charles Cecile), Robert (Barbara Oram) and William (Janice). Grandmother of John Cecile, Pamela Snell Baer (Michelle), Gregory Snell, David Snell, Robert Cecile, Thomas Cecile, Julia Snell, and Alice Snell. Jean was born in Sarnia to William Floyd Marshall and Lillian Gertrude Marshall (nee Gregg) and grew up in London. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario and studied journalism at Columbia University in New York City. She returned to London as the assistant to the Chief Librarian of the London Public Library. There she met John Snell. They married and moved to Guelph in 1950. Jean was a founding member of the Guelph branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association and active in the Alzheimer Society, Friends of the Guelph Museum and Canadian Federation of University Women. A memorial service will be held at Dublin Street United Church, corner of Dublin and Suffolk, Guelph, on Monday November 1, 2010 at 11 AM followed by a reception at the church.
