FISCHER, Lorne Moody – In his own words, ” I am truly blessed”. Gratitude for life and all its bounty will be the touchstone by which we will remember him. Lorne was born in Harriston, Ontario on February 22, 1923 to pioneer homesteading parents Jenny (Butler) and Dwight (Bud) Fischer from Peace River, AB. He passed away peacefully in his 89th year in Barrie, on Monday, April 11, 2011. He was the devoted husband of the late Eva Mae (Wilson), whom he met while washing windows at the Royal Hotel in Guelph in 1946. He is the loved father of Ann Hambley, Grant Fischer, Thomson (Janice) Fischer and the late Lawrie Fischer. Loving grandfather of Greg Hambley, Jessica Fischer, Meghan Trott, Jordie and Tess Fischer and the late Joseph Fischer. Proud great-grandfather to Owen Radforth-Hambley. Lorne is predeceased by his brothers Ross and Lloyd. Lorne served his country overseas in WWII with the RCAF and was a proud member of The Colonel John McCrae Royal Canadian Legion. In his years of owning and operating the Fischer Royal Hotel in Guelph, he gave back to his community through the Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts, and Shriners. Special appreciation goes to Dr. Rebecca Verhaeghe, the staff at Hospice Simcoe, and Lorne’s many friends at Roberta Place. A private graveside service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park. A reception to celebrate Lorne’s life will follow on Thursday April 14, 2011, 2-5 PM at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph (519-822-0051 or www.wallcustance.com).
