BOSBOOM, Johannes Evert – Chemist, organist, winemaker, hobbyist and avid reader. Though he worked his whole career in organic chemistry, music was truly his passion. He completed his Grade Nine Conservatory at St. Georges Church and was the Organist at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Acton for the better part of 40 years.
In Acton, where he lived on five acres until 2020, he planted two vineyards and made countless liters of wine over the years. The second vineyard was next to the pond, which he had dug when he and his wife purchased the house in 1971. Two children were raised in that home and property, and he loved that land dearly.
An active hobbyist, model railroads were a creative outlet. He scoured the hobby shops, shows and later, with the help of his son, the internet for the very particular trains he wanted. The best ones were proudly displayed in an oak case on the wall in his bedroom.
Though an avowed Catholic, his reading appetite was very broad. History, philosophy, literature and science fiction all got time in his hands. He had an uncanny ability to fall asleep on his back, book held six inches from his face and kept aloft for hours. When his eyes opened, he would continue where he left off.
He passed away peacefully at home, three weeks shy of his 87th birthday.
Predeceased by his daughter Julia, Jos leaves behind his wife Ineke, son Marc, daughter-in-law Michelle Gregory, son-in-law Rob Pols and grandchildren Nico Pols, and Sadie Bosboom. Dear brother of Janny and uncle of Claudia. Also survived by Olga Honing of the Netherlands.
