Anne Marie Murphy
Date of Passing: November 15, 2025
Murphy, Anne Marie (née Kinnunen) – Passed away at the age of 87 in a peaceful hospice setting in Guelph, Ontario, on November 15, 2025, with her husband Daniel and her three daughters by her side in her final hours. Anne was predeceased by her three brothers, Arne, Reuben, and Edward Kinnunen.
Anne was born and raised at Long Lake outside Sudbury in 1938, the fourth child of Finnish immigrants. After graduating from high school she worked as a secretary in Elliot Lake, where she met her first husband, Jack Rognvaldson, with whom she had three daughters. After Anne and Jack divorced, Anne had a second chance at love. Having relocated to Toronto, she was employed at Bechtel, where she met Dan Murphy. Anne and Dan had a long and happy marriage of 41 years. Anne moved to Ajax to be with Dan and found a new career at Ontario Hydro, a place where she made good friends.
Anne loved seeing the world. She travelled widely, to places such as Finland, India, and Peru. She always had time for family, travelling to Illinois, British Columbia, Arizona and Wales to spend time with her daughters, stepchildren and grandchildren. She and Dan hosted many Christmases and other celebrations to bring the family together.
Anne’s beautiful garden was a labour of love where she spent many hours. She also had a vegetable garden and provided family, friends, and neighbours with tomato and pepper seedlings each year. Anne was an accomplished weaver as well, gifting family with beautiful textiles.
Anne cared about the Earth, choosing a green burial to reduce the impact to the ecosystem of her passing. She was laid to rest on November 19, 2025 at Taylor Meadows in Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph, Ontario.
Anne leaves her loving husband Daniel, her daughters Alice (Nick), Meris (Ken), and Tracey (Randy), her stepchildren Terry (Angela), Michael (Julia), Kim (Christian) and Bryan (Bozena), her nephews, Donald and David (Sue) Kinnunen, and her stepdaughters from her first marriage, Belinda and Jakki. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Her family and friends mourn her passing and will miss her deeply.
Thank you to the doctors and nurses at Guelph General Hospital for their expert care and to the staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington for their care and compassion.
