George Thomas Jilek
1955-06-28 ~ 2026-01-28
“Thanks to Ashley and Jessica Dawe for the amount of time and care you both gave him while he went through his final journey. Thanks as well to Simon, the chaplain at St. Joseph’s, for helping Geroge and family spiritually during his time there. A beautiful smile, joyous laugh, and compassion for both patient and family. Kudos to Dr. Jayaram, he saved Georges life by amputating his right leg in 2019. He has operated numerous times on the left leg, and he was very proactive in his continuing care that gave us another six years with him. Thank you so much. Huge thanks to Williams and McDaniel Property Management who have been so supportive of our family over the years.”

It is with heavy hearts, yet fond memories and smiles that we bid farewell to George Thomas Jilek, who passed away on January 28, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on June 28, 1955, George was a lover of the great outdoors from a young age. His adventurous spirit led him to embrace activities such as swimming, downhill skiing, hiking, and camping, soaking up every moment nature had to offer.
Back indoors, George was quite the game enthusiast, often found engaged in intense battles of Euchre, Backgammon, and various board games. He had a knack for word games on Facebook, leaving his opponents in awe of his cunning wit and strategic prowess.
A true master of the grill, George’s barbecuing skills were second to none. His culinary talents knew no bounds, and many were lucky enough to savor the delicious creations that came off his grill.
Even after facing challenges, such as the amputation of his right leg in 2019, George’s spirit remained unbroken. He found joy in spending time with his friend Tom, rolling down the hall in good company and laughter. Embracing his new scooter, he continued to explore the world around him, especially enjoying leisurely rides around Fergus on pleasant days.
A compassionate animal lover, George will be deeply missed by his feline companions, Whiskey and Wilson, whose purrs and playful antics brought him much joy.
George leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter, survived by his beloved wife Kathy Dawe-Jilek, and their son George Dawe-Jilek and Leanna Testani. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-great nieces and nephews, all who will cherish his memory dearly.
Though he may have left this world, George’s zest for life and warm heart will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, dear George, and may your spirit forever roam free in the vast wilderness you so adored.
