SKINNER, Sylvia – Sylvia passed away peacefully at home holding Rick’s hand with family on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from breast cancer.
She was a loving Grandma, Mom, and Wife. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, and her memory will be carried in their hearts forever. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 30 years Rick; her daughters Andrea (Kelly), Lisa, and Jennifer (Eng); her adored grandchildren Zada, Drake, Izabella, Tyson, Eric and Eng Jr.
Sylvia will be missed by her brothers Tom (Pat), Rufus (Irene), her sister Sandra (Philip), as well as her nieces and nephews and many dear friends
Born in Toronto, Sylvia moved to Gravenhurst as a young child and later moved to Bracebridge. She had a lifelong love of Muskoka and always cherished the time she spent there after eventually moving to Guelph.
Sylvia was happiest with her friends and family, especially with her grandchildren. She had a deep love for plants and flowers; her home and gardens filled with them. Each year her backyard was a true labour of love, and her gardens are a masterpiece of her own design. Spring days were often spent at greenhouses selecting the perfect flowers for the gardens. There she would sit outside with Rick and enjoy the beauty of her work. She even started a plant room in the house where she would grown her own flowers to plant each season.
The family would like to Thank Dr. Carey Shafir, nurse Laura, and the nurses from Bayshore Home Care Solutions for the patience, compassion and exceptional care and always honouring Sylvia’s wishes.
As per Sylvias wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Sylvia will be held in early May.
