BROWNLEE, Charles Ross – 1937-2024 – With much sadness, we share with you the passing of Charles Ross Brownlee on June 22, 2024, just shy of his 87th birthday.
Ross, as he was known to close family and friends, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland to Charles and Agnes Brownlee. Pre-deceased by his sister Anne and her husband Robert Paterson. Loving husband to Marie (Allin) Brownlee for 38 years, and caring father to David, Paul, and Mia-Lyn (2015). He leaves behind two granddaughters, Sarah (Ben) Bird and Rachel Brownlee, and six great-grandchildren. Will be sadly missed by his brother-in-law Gord Allin and brother- and sister-in-law Calvin and Wendy Allin, as well as 12 nieces and nephews and their families.
Ross apprenticed as an electrician in Scotland, then emigrated to Canada in 1958. He employed his electrical skills and knowledge while working at a variety of companies, including Kerr-Addison gold mine in Virginiatown, Northern Electric, and Omark, in Guelph. Ross later retired from the Ontario Ministry of Government Services after 25 years. Retirement did not agree with Ross, however, so he went to work for True Value Hardware for 11 years, then retired again after 16 years at Home Depot. Ross’ knowledge, friendliness, and amazing sense of humour sent customers off with the information they needed, and usually chuckling. Ross really enjoyed these “retirement years” working in retail, the camaraderie with his coworkers and customers, and sharing his electrical knowledge.
Other pastimes Ross enjoyed over the years included golf, woodworking, tinkering with his motorcycles, and dog walks at the park. He and Marie enjoyed many trips down East, an Alaska cruise, and fall vacations to enjoy the colours. Ross will forever be loved and remembered by his family and friends for his friendliness, hilarious sense of humour, and welcoming and easygoing ways.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Spadafora and Dr. Robinson, and all of the caring and compassionate staff and volunteers who took such great care of Ross during his short stay at Hospice Wellington.
Family and friends are welcome to join us for a celebration of life for Ross on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph from 1-4pm. We will be sharing memories of Ross beginning at 3pm.
