KIRKLAND, Donald Fredrick –
November 14, 1940 – February 11, 2025
Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 64 years, Darlene, by his side.
Beloved father of Nancy (the late Bill) Johnson, Brian (Bessie) Kirkland, Simone (Robin) White and Candice (Andrew) Boetsch. Proud grandfather of Anastasia (Marco) Pelletier, Hayley (Courtney) Huggins, Bethany (Brandon) Turner, Jacob and Don-William Kirkland, Lewis and Asher White, and Ferris and Emory Boetsch, and loving great-grandfather of Isaiah and Micah Yuen, and Zepherine and Pascha Huggins. Don was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Margaret Kirkland, and his brother Larry (survived by Diana) Kirkland. He was also a cherished uncle to many nephews and nieces.
Don was a loyal, wise and kind man to his family and friends. He was well-respected in the community and admired for his work at Agriculture Canada for over 30 years (retired as Director General, Strategies and Planning Directorate, Research Branch), and especially for his second career from which he never retired, volunteering tirelessly for an international human rights law firm and advancing the charitable work of Jehovah’s Witnesses in many countries.
The family wishes to thank the palliative care team from Bayshore Home Care in Guelph for their exceptional services.
A memorial service will be held for Don at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (2125 Erin Centre Blvd, Mississauga, ON) on Saturday, March 1st, 2025, 4pm. For any unable to attend in person, a Zoom link is available. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
Memorial contributions to the Jehovah’s Witnesses – Worldwide Work would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Donald F. Kirkland in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
