Dorothy McLaren
February 20, 1940 – August 9, 2025
With shattered hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Dorothy “Walker” McLaren, who left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of courage, unconditional love, and unforgettable strength. She was born on February 20, 1940, in England — and from the very beginning, she was a force of quiet bravery and fierce grace.
At only 18 years old, Dorothy crossed an ocean to build a new life in Canada — a journey few would ever have the courage to take. It was here she met her soulmate, Robert McLaren, the love of her life, with whom she built a family grounded in warmth, strength, and endless love. Their marriage was a true partnership, one that carried them through both the joys and heartbreaks of life.
Dorothy was no stranger to loss. She endured the unimaginable — saying goodbye to her husband Robert in 2007, and later her two beloved sons, David McLaren (2010) and Steven McLaren (2025). These losses would have broken many, but Dorothy carried on with the same strength and dignity that defined her entire life. She lived for those she loved, and somehow, even in grief, she continued to give so much of herself to everyone around her.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John Walker and George Walker, and is survived by her loving sister Gereldine, who was her lifelong companion and confidante.
Dorothy’s greatest pride was her family. She lives on through the hearts and memories of her grandchildren Taralyn Pearson-McLaren and Tamara Pearson-McLaren, who she loved fiercely and unconditionally. Her love didn’t stop there — she was also a proud great-grandmother to Brock Terry, and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her newest great-grandson, Robert Mark, who will grow up hearing stories of the remarkable woman whose name he will carry.
Dorothy was known for many things — her unmatched strength, her gentle soul, her bravery, and her unwavering kindness. She had a quiet way of making people feel safe, understood, and deeply loved. Her hugs could melt the worst day. Her presence made any room feel like home. She gave everything she had to the people she loved, and never asked for anything in return.
Her life was not always easy, but it was deeply meaningful. She taught us how to be brave without making a sound, how to love without condition, and how to keep going — even when our hearts are breaking.
A Graveside service will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, where we will gather to honor her memory, share stories, and hold one another the way she always held us — with warmth and strength.
Dorothy, you were more than a mother, a sister, a grandmother, a great-grandmother — you were the heart of this family. You were our anchor. Our comfort. Our home.
We will miss you forever. But we promise to carry your love with us in everything we do.
Until we see you again…
