Schweiger, Franz (Frank) – Of Guelph, passed away at Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 82 years, following a short and aggressive illness.
Frank will forever be missed by his daughter Maja Abdel-Ghani and her husband Akram. Maja and Akram’s home was always the site of a project that Frank had concocted from building sheds to finding any reason to drive the lawn tractor around in the yard. Frank always enjoyed keeping busy and tinkering around; certainly, traits he developed from his home country of Slovenia.
Frank was a very proud Opa to Ali and Angelica, both of whom have great memories of Sunday family dinners that always included Opa bringing a sweet treat from Costco for his grandchildren and handing them $20 bills. Ali always asked for Opa’s mashed potatoes over anything else when visiting Opa’s house.
Frank leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Nancy; a life together that was blessed with good friends, world travel and family. Nancy’s current advanced dementia saved her from the tremendous heart ache of Frank’s passing.
Frank will be fondly remembered by niece Barbara Kugler and her husband Roman. Both Barbara and Roman affectionately remember annual visits from Slovenia, most recently visiting in May 2024.
Predeceased by his parents Franc and Olga Schweiger and his sister Brigita Suholeznik and her husband Franc.
Dad, thank you for blessing our lives with your love, determination, passion and generosity. I love you.
