ROBINSON, George W. – April 10, 1941 – October 22, 2025
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of George William Robinson, 84, on October 22, 2025, after a brief illness.
George is lovingly remembered by his longtime partner, Joy Trimble, beloved sons, Greg (Deborah) and Jeff (Sarah) Robinson, and his cherished grandchildren: Lily, Ronan, Matt, Reese and Olive. He is survived by his loving sister Doris (the late Norb), nephew Kris (Diane) and nieces Kelly (Scott) and Kim. He is predeceased by his parents Stanley and Bernice.
Born at home in Nassagaweya Township, he attended Public School # 7 Nassageweya, and then high school in Acton. He graduated with an Agricultural Diploma in 1965, followed by an Agriculture Degree in 1993 from the University of Guelph. He was a proud OAC alumnus and University of Guelph employee, overseeing the university’s agricultural research stations for more than 30 years. He took great pride in his work and, above all, in the many staff members he hired, mentored, and supported throughout his career. His leadership, kindness, and integrity left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege to work alongside him.
He was an active and respected member of the agricultural community and served as Chairman of the International Plowing Match when it was held in Elora in 2000, a role that reflected both community spirit and love for all things farming. An avid collector of antique tractors, George was never happier than being on the farm and fixing things. He loved hosting friends and family on the farm, and it was a regular gathering place for many occasions. George’s many activities and interests also made him a popular fixture in many clubs, committees and groups, including the Guelph Curling Club, Men’s Club, Masonic Lodge, International Tractor Club and many more.
George will be forever remembered for his big heart (and even bigger hands), generosity and steadfast loyalty. He was a rare soul who could make anyone (and everyone) feel welcome and valued, and his humble strength and gentle wisdom will be deeply missed. He was a special person to many and will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Sunday, October 26, 2025 from 1-4 pm and on Monday, October 27, 2025 from 10-11 am followed by George’s funeral service at 11 am in the funeral home chapel.
