GERARD PAUL JOSEPH MAINGUY, affectionately known as “Gerry,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Hospice Wellington in Guelph, ON, on September 2nd, 2025, in his 90th year. Born September 14th, 1935, in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario to Alphonse and Imelda Allaire Mainguy. Gerry was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeannine Paquet. He was a devoted father to children Deborah Pedersen (Bent), Mark Mainguy (Pamela), Kyle Mainguy (Sabrina) and stepchildren, Larry Paquet, Sonya Cullen (Tim), and Ronnie Paquet; and beloved Pépère to Melissa (Jon), Rachel (Wesley), Kyra (Japeth), Ashley (James), Dane (Abigail), Joshua, Amanda, Kristina, Nikki, Jeff, Victoria, and Kayla. He was the proud Great Grand-Pépère to 16 children.
Gerry gave 41 years to General Motors Oshawa and even in his retirement was known for his hard work. A man of few words, he let his actions speak for him. Whether you needed to borrow a tool from his workshop, bodywork done on your car, help with a home reno or a carpentry job, he was the “Main Guy” friends and family would turn to. Gerry would give the shirt off his back –even if it was his Blue Jays Jersey.
He was a cherished brother to Lucille DesOrmeaux (Arthur), Sr. Irene Mainguy, Aurore Monette (Alpheda), Fernand Mainguy (Claire), Rollande Olmstead (Laurent), Jeannette Plante (Orald), George Mainguy, and Jacques (Denise), Gerry enriched the lives of many through his kindness and dedication.
A celebration of Gerry’s life will be held at Wall-Custance Funeral Home, 206 Norfolk St, Guelph, ON, on Saturday September 13th, 2025, with visitation at 10:00am, the service will begin at 11:00am. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre. We invite family and friends to come together and celebrate a life well-lived.
The family was exceptionally grateful to Hospice Wellington for the comfort and care they provided Gerry and his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Wellington.
