OWEN, Jean E. (nee Buchanan) – Passed away peacefully at her home at Twin Oaks of Maryhill, Monday, February 21, 2022, at the age of 96.
Predeceased by her husband Frederick L. Owen of 44 years. She was a loving Mom to seven children: Lawrence, Ronald, Frederick, Carol, Linda, Sharon and Tamara. Her 11 grandchildren Shannon, Andrea, Dayne, Edward, Julie, Christina, Jessica, James, Meghan, Evan, and Danielle will cherish all their wonderful memories. She was so proud of her eight great-grandchildren Krista, Michelle, Shana, Danica, Kael, Zaden, Robert, and Olivia; and her two great-great-grandchildren Aaron and Myla. Dear sister of Frank (deceased), Robert, Arthur (deceased), Anna (deceased), and Patricia.
Jean was born in Outlook Montana and raised in British Columbia, living on a trap line in her early years, then moving to South Fort George when she and her older brother needed schooling beyond their mother’s capabilities. In June 1944 she married Fred, who was stationed there during WW2. They then moved to Guelph, Ontario, where they resided for many years and raised their family. She obtained her ECE after raising her children and subsequently worked at the Guelph YMCA daycare and Honey Pot Nursery School in Acton. Jean had a passion for St. Andrews Church. She had a love of gardening, the great outdoors, and exploring the trails on her scooter.
Thank you to all the nurses, activity coordinators, PSWs and support workers at Twin Oaks of Maryhill.
