PORTERFIELD, Margaret Lois
April 17, 1929 – April 18, 2025
The family of Margaret Lois Porterfield (nee Rush) are saddened to announce her passing, in Guelph at 7:14pm on Friday, April 18th at the age of 96. Her loving concern and practical counsel will be sorely missed by her family.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Robert Donald (2009), her brother Elmer (1925), her sister Beryl (1995), father Leonard (1960), mother Mildred (1976), and son Donald Fraser (2025). Margaret is survived by brother Carl, sons Glenn (Jacqueline), Craig (Sharon), daughter Karen (Kim) and daughter-in-law Darlene.
Mother was very proud of her grandchildren – Darryl (Lindsay), Jennifer (Jeff), Ian (Vanessa), Patrick, Christine (Greg), Cory (Taylor), Meagan (Alex), Hayley (Emily) and Colleen (Connor). She was always curious as to their activities and well-being. Margaret also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren.
Born in Scarborough, Margaret was proud of her “Toronto” roots and graduated with a diploma in Occupational Therapy from the University of Toronto in 1950. After marriage, she moved to Guelph to support her husband in setting up his dental practice. Children and house building soon followed. The busyness of family life did not stop her from community and faith as a parishioner of Harcourt United, St. Georges Anglican, and membership in the IODE, Anglican Church Women and the Embroiderers Guild. Mother loved to sew, knit, crochet, and embroider many beautiful and award-winning pieces. Travel was an opportunity for Margaret and Don to experience different countries, and they loved their journeys to Europe, the Caribbean and once to Africa.
Mum passed the day after her 96th birthday and is sure to be over-joyed in reunion with her beloved husband of 59 year.
Cremation has taken place, a private family internment to follow at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, General Funds would be appreciated.
