Myra Pearce (née Wilson) was born on January 17, 1922, in Kilkeel, Northern Ireland, the sixth of eight children. Her long, remarkable life was filled with a strong spirit, a keen sense of humour, and a deep love for family.
Her life-long partnership with John Pearce truly stood the test of time. They met in March of 1944, at a dance in Belfast. By June, they were engaged; by December, they were married. On the train to Bangor for their honeymoon, as Myra gazed quietly out the window, John gently teased, “Cheer up, it’s only for a lifetime.” And it was a lifetime of love, devotion, and adventure.
In 1957, they began a new chapter, in Canada. After settling in Rockwood, they moved to Guelph, where they raised their two daughters, Carol and Lynda, in a life that was grounded in hard work and strong values. Myra worked at Rockwell for 17 years, retiring in 1980. This was the launching point for their 18 golden winters together in Jensen Beach, Florida – in between cherished, family-filled summers in Goderich, on Lake Huron. They eventually returned to Guelph full-time, celebrating their 71st wedding anniversary in 2015, shortly before John’s passing. Myra spent the next decade in the close and constant company of family.
Myra passed away peacefully, on December 2, 2025, at the age of 103. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Pearce (2015); the loving mother of Carol McAlister (Malcolm) and Lynda Henry (Willi); and the admired grandmother of the late Rev. Diane Boyd (Rob), as well as Barbra McAlister, Calen Henry (Heather), Connor Henry (Robyn). She was also the very proud great-grandmother of Kaleigh, Abi, Robyn and Ben Boyd; Ethan, Megan and Marcus Malone; and Oliver and Emmaline Henry.
Heartfelt thanks to the Heritage House staff and the kind caregivers at Norfolk Manor for their attentive and compassionate care of Myra. Sincere gratitude is also expressed to the nurses and staff at Guelph General Hospital and Hospice Wellington, whose kindness and attentive care brought comfort and dignity to Myra’s final days.
