BULIONIS, Ruth – passed away peacefully at Riverside Glen Long Term Care facility on September 26, 2022, at 98 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband Jonas.
Mother of Peter (Tonny), cherished grandmother (Ama) to Andrea (Shawn), Julia (Chris), and Christine. Great grandmother to Tag, Kaia, Lincoln, Jonah and Anna.
Ruth was born on March 8, 1924, in Tartu, Estonia. Her university studies were interrupted by the war, and she had to flee Estonia to escape from the advancing Soviet Army. She met her husband to be, Jonas, at a refugee camp in Germany. They emigrated to Canada separately but settled in Hamilton, Ontario and married in 1949. Peter was born a year later.
In the refugee camp, Ruth worked briefly as an English to German translator for the film crew on the set of the movie “The Search” starring, among others, Montgomery Clift and directed by the renowned Fred Zinneman.
Ruth worked as a Quality Control Technician at Westinghouse in Hamilton, then at Gennum Corporation, in Burlington, a new company spinoff.
Travel was important to Ruth. World traveler to over 30 countries included Austria, Egypt, Holland, Japan, and France.
Grandchildren remember shopping trips with their “Ama.”
She loved both cats and dogs. She owned several cats in her lifetime and had treats and drinking water for visiting dogs to enjoy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
