ATKINSON, Scott – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Scott on July 27, 2025, at the age of 57.
Scott will be deeply missed by his wife of 32 years, Janice, and his two children Joe (Jocelyn) and Rebecca. Predeceased by parents Bob and Sue Atkinson as well as Paul Kelly (Alison). Remembered by his mother-in-law Vera Shoemaker. Cherished brother of Greg (Katherine), Janet (Doug), Brian, and Pam (Dave) and their children.
Scott was a devoted husband and father, and his love for his family was a shining light until the very end. His family was his whole world and his passing has left a hole that cannot ever be filled. We couldn’t have been blessed with a better man in our lives.
In life, he was tenacious, driven, dedicated, honourable, kind and gentle. He loved to teach, and those around him often talked about his “teaching moments”, little fragments of his knowledge that he passed along with pride. He was a mentor, to his children and his colleagues. Scott loved to fish and you could often find him on his boat with his beloved dog, just enjoying the water. He was a fantastic cook, even though he never believed it. He brought humour and light to our family gatherings, impromptu road trips and lazy weekends.
Scott’s memorial service will be held on Friday, August 8th, 2025, at 3:00 pm at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, with a reception to follow. He will be resting at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
We would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers at Hospice Wellington, St. Mary’s Hospital, Grand River Cancer Centre and Hospital as well as Dr. Graham Cummins and his team for their care during this journey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Wellington.
