WIGGINS, Shirley (nee Lawrence) – It is with profound sadness that on Monday, August 18, 2025, Shirley passed away at Riverside Glen Long-Term Care at the age of 94, after a long-illness.
Shirley was the beloved wife of Bert Wiggins (predeceased in 2013) and mother to four children, Michael (Pam) John (predeceased in 2014), Paul (Kristine) and Ann. Loving Nana to 12 grandchildren, (two of her grandchildren, Melissa Wiggins, and Gregory Occhiuzzi (deceased), Great Nana to 15 great grandchildren. Shirley leaves behind her brother David Lawrence of Vancouver, British Columbia and her sister Mary Elia of Ontario.
After Shirley‘s beloved husband passed away in 2013, her son John was living with her in Glenelg Ontario until his passing in 2014. Shirley could no longer live alone in the north country with the severe winters, and moved to Guelph, Ontario to live with her daughter Ann and her family in 2015. Until the age of 93 Shirley was very independent.
She was an avid reader, a crochet master, wine lover, and her love of music. (her beloved Frank Sinatra, and Jazz!!) ohhhh…. The Blue Jays and how to love golf after dad made her watch it for so many years.
During Shirley‘s stay at St. Joseph’s health centre in Guelph for 10 months, she was moved to Riverside Glen long-term care facility where she survived 14 days prior to her passing.
The family would like to send a very special, thank you and a loving message to her cousin Patricia Grierson for her almost daily visits during the last 10 months.
As per Shirley‘s wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will happen at a later date to be announced on the Wall-Custance funeral home website.
As per Shirley‘s wishes, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
Any messages, stories or condolences may be shared on the Wall-Custance funeral home website.
