Embro, Trieste Leonard in his 89th year (1937–2026) “Tree-Candy Man” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father on March 24, 2026, after a short battle with cancer at St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre.
Beloved father of the late April Belcastro (2023), Kim Embro, Kathy Carpino (Joe), Angela Embro, Tammy Beliski (John), and his extended family. Predeceased by his parents, Carl and Alice Embro, and his siblings Morris, Vinnie (Judy), Raymond, and Anita (Doug). Survived by his siblings Tommy (Cindy), Rose Marie (late Eusebio), Carl (Jeanette), Brenda, Randy (Sherry), and Heather (Alfie). He will be deeply missed by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and his beloved fur baby, Ginger.
Many will remember Dad as the man who sold Christmas trees at the corner of Stevenson Street and Cassino Avenue for over 60 years, and as the “Candyman,” handing out homemade candy apples every Halloween.
He loved Elvis, and in his younger years was said to resemble him; he certainly had the moves and enjoyed singing his songs at karaoke nights. He also played in the NHPA Horseshoes League and was a devoted Blue Jays fan.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the palliative care team, physicians, nursing staff, PSWs, and service staff at St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre for their compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Health Care Centre, or the Guelph Legion.
A tree will be planted in memory of Trieste L. Embro in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
